I brought the daughter down to feed the ducks in St. Anne’s park today. As we were walking towards the pond she said, "Look at that man, Daddy!" An aul skin was flailing his arms at the birds and them flying for cover.

When he noticed we were approaching he said, “I hope your bread's not hard!” without trying to make eye contact I said, “Why is that?” he barked back, “Coz these little fughers won't eat it. They've been spoilt by the posh heads from Clontarf. Der was an aul wan just here feeding dem with brown organic bread. And now der refusing this bit-a-batch and its only a few days old. Can you believe dat?”

I tried to appease him, “Maybe they're not hungry?” he came back with, “Maybe they're spoilt little posh duck-fughs, wot bread have ya got in de bag?”

I said, “Fig with walnuts we got it up at the Artisan market.” Says I. “Ahh here . . . I’m off” he said. I could here him muttering to himself as he walked off towards the chestnuts, “Fig with walnuts?”
